Brazilian Renewable Energy Company's CSO Praises Scala's Biogas Upgrader

May 9, 2025, Suzhou — Against the backdrop of global energy transition and carbon neutrality goals, biogas, as a clean and renewable energy source, is attracting increasing attention from international investors. Recently, Professor Anderson, Chief Scientific Officer of a Brazilian renewable energy investment company and a renowned expert in renewable energy, visited Scala for an in-depth technical inspection focused on biogas upgrading technology.

The visit was intensive and highly informative. The first stop was Scala's warehouse and technical integration center in Suzhou. Professor Anderson toured the inventory of Prism® biogas separation membranes manufactured by Air Products and gained a detailed understanding of the production process, assembly procedures, and daily operation and maintenance management of biogas upgrading systems.

During the subsequent technical exchange meeting, the Scala team systematically introduced the core advantages of membrane separation technology in biogas upgrading, including low energy consumption, high methane recovery rate, no chemical additives, and low long-term operating costs. The team also shared engineering experience and operational data from several large-scale domestic biogas projects completed in recent years.

On the second day, accompanied by our team, Professor Anderson traveled to Fuyang to visit a large-scale biogas production and upgrading project with a daily processing capacity of 20,000 cubic meters. Guided by the on-site operations manager, he observed the entire process, from feedstock input, anaerobic digestion, and biological desulfurization to membrane-based biogas upgrading, as well as the storage and resource utilization of residual materials converted into bio-organic fertilizer.

Inside the central control room, the project team demonstrated an Industrial Internet-based automation control system capable of remotely monitoring and intelligently regulating key parameters such as temperature, pressure, flow rate, and methane purity.

Professor Anderson has more than 30 years of experience in biogas fermentation research and previously held senior positions at well-known Brazilian universities and government institutions. He currently operates his own laboratory while serving as Chief Scientific Officer of the renewable energy investment company. During this visit to China, he came with a clear objective — to gain a comprehensive understanding of the full biogas fermentation and upgrading process, particularly the practical application of automation control technologies in real-world engineering projects.
At the conclusion of the visit, Professor Anderson expressed great satisfaction with the experience. He commented: 

“In Brazil, we have long relied on purchasing related equipment from Europe, which is expensive and involves long delivery times. Before coming to China, I did not expect Chinese equipment to offer such reliable quality and a complete technological system while still maintaining highly competitive pricing. The entire visit far exceeded my expectations. I have developed strong interest in Scala's products and in China's manufacturing capabilities.”

This visit not only strengthened technical exchanges between China and Brazil in the renewable energy sector, but also laid a solid foundation for potential future equipment procurement and project cooperation.
